Sustainable development

We work tirelessly to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve human safety and promote a circular economy. Our carbon fibers enable the generation and use of renewable energy, reduce emissions from transportation and buildings, and reduce the consumption of scarce resources.

The manufacture of high-performance fibers requires the use of energy and raw materials, and therefore a clear strategy is needed for the development of new sustainable technologies, approaches that include advanced production techniques for the fibers themselves and their recyclable concepts.

Our actions

All carbon fiber production processes are energy intensive. For this reason, the entire carbon fiber production process is monitored and audited according to the ISO 50.001 Energy Management System and ISO 14.001 Environmental Management System. Waste heat generated during the carbon fiber production process is recycled into a local heat exchange system and used for air conditioning in other production facilities.

In order to quantify all the energy and material flows in this energy-intensive production process, a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of various carbon fibers and downstream products was conducted.The LCA essentially balances all the environmental aspects of a product’s life cycle, from the raw material, through the production and use phases, to disposal.

We firmly believe that everyone has a good idea to improve daily operations, or even a revolutionary innovation. But the challenges are manifold and actions need to be prioritized for effective implementation. All these ambitions will help deliver sustainable products with a positive return on investment.

These challenges require everyone to raise their awareness and make a concrete contribution “on the job”. Everyone must take the time to work towards our environmental goals. It is our collective responsibility to implement these medium-term plans and to make progress each year.
